Local bank partners with neighborhood care center

The Mister Rogers quote, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping,” is a great reminder of a nonprofit organization in our community who does just that.

Each month, over 350 families visit the Neighborhood Care Center and nearly 150 ministry partners and volunteers assist with program needs.

“For quite some time the lobby entrance and waiting area has been a space Neighborhood Care Center has wanted to update to better serve our guests,” said Cody Monkman, Neighborhood Care Center Director.

Becoming aware of this need, First National Bank and Trust recently donated $5,000 to Neighborhood Care Center for a new entryway door and carpeting. The new remodel will now add 250 square feet to the facility to create more space and natural light for visiting families. The final installation is set to be complete by March 2020.

“We are so thankful to have a good neighbor like First National Bank who partners with us in our vision and mission to radically transform small town neighborhoods,” said Monkman.

With a mission to bring restoration to the broken, Neighborhood Care Center also offers crisis relief ministries, back pack programs, a clothing room, financial mentoring, counseling services and crockpot classes to name a few.

The Neighborhood Market is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Once a month families may receive a monthly care package that includes staple grains, frozen products and toiletries. Additionally, each week, families can choose various non-perishable products as well as fresh fruits, vegetables and breads.

“We truly want to meet people where they are at,” continued Monkman. “Sometimes that means utilizing our mobile food pantry. We want to transform our neighborhoods, join others in their journey and help restore brokenness.”
